Percussionists should prepare a published solo or etude on snare drum, keyboard, and timpani (if the applicant has prior drumset experience they may submit a few different styles/grooves, but this is not mandatory). In addition, please include the following on your video--three chromatically adjacent scales with arpeggios by memory (Example Ab, A, Bb), as well as the following rudiments; double stroke roll, paradiddles, flam taps, flam accents (all slow-fast-slow), and a soft-loud-soft buzz roll. Please email Dr. Jordan (mgjordan@jsu.edu) or Mr. Gillespie (cgillesp@jsu.edu) if you have questions about suitable solo/etude repertoire.

The band scholarship audition will serve as your audition for admission into the Department of Music which is required if you plan to major in Music or Music Education.

For further information on admission into the Department of Music and information on audition pieces, repertoire, and requirements, please visit the JSU music department website.

For questions about the band scholarship audition process, please contact Ms. Sandy Duval at the University Bands Office (256) 782-5562 or slynch@jsu.edu.  GOOD LUCK!  We look forward to hearing you play.
